BULAWAYO film, theatre writer and director Khaliphile “Khally” Sibanda says she is working on a musical show production titled Musical Sounds: A Rendition of Sound of Music, which is set to premiere from November 25 to 27 at the Bulawayo Theatre.
Khally told NewsDay Life & Style that the production, in which she features, was different from other theatres as most people were used to drama.
“The musical production tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess for a large family while she ponders about being a nun. She falls in love with the children and their widowed father, Captain von Trapp who is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, despite being opposed to Nazis,” she said.
“I love that this production is a different type of theatre. We are used to dramas and physical theatre in Bulawayo. I want to do a musical, something different for our audience and I believe it’s refreshing.”
Khally said the production carried a motivational message.
“One needs to climb every mountain, search high and low until they find their dream. We need to refresh our minds after a tough year. We have been through a lot and we need to find ourselves before we enter 2022,” she said.
“Follow every rainbow until you find your dream. A dream that needs all the love we have for art.”
