5 perish in Fort Rixon accident

FIVE people, among them two police officers and a soldier, died in a head-on collision which occurred along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway yesterday morning.

In a statement, police said the fatal accident occurred at the 366km peg near Kombo in Fort Rixon, and involved a Mitsubishi minibus and a Nissan UD truck.

“All the five occupants of the minibus, who include two ZRP [Zimbabwe Republic Police] members, a ZNA [Zimbabwe National Army] member and yet to be identified male adults died in the unfortunate road accident,” police said.

Meanwhile, a 44-year-old motorist from Tjehanga village in Plumtree died last Wednesday after he lost control of his Toyota Hilux truck while trying to avoid running into a herd of goats at the 20km peg along the Plumtree-Matjinge Road.

Matabeleland South acting police spokesperson Sergeant Thandolwenkosi Moyo identified the deceased as Natanel Ndebele, while Victor Maunga (35) of Malinga homestead, Bangu village in Plumtree was injured in the same accident after the vehicle veered off the road and overturned.
