CAPE TOWN — As entries continue to pour in for the first Rugby Africa (www.RugbyAfrique.com) Media and Photography Awards (https://bit.ly/2QsBoEu), the jury panel welcomes Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok legend Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira.

As South Africa’s third-most capped Springbok, the 35-year-old will be among a panel of not only current and past rugby male and female players, but also stands in the presence of high-ranking senior executives of companies active in Africa, as well as rugby male and female referees.

The winners will be announced on August 18, 2021, where two front-runners will have the opportunity to walk away with US$1 500 in prize money.

Being on the jury panel, Mtawarira will have the opportunity of reviewing photos and content pieces from all corners of Africa, allowing him to explore the level of how the game is played, appreciated, and celebrated in other parts of the continent.

With the Media and Photography Awards, Rugby Africa is putting a very deliberate focus on the heroines and heroes, outside the field of play, working tirelessly to promote rugby in every corner of Africa, a sport that continues to change and bridge lives.

Rugby Africa general manager Coralie van Den Berg said: “As Rugby Africa we are thankful to Tendai for affording his time and support to judge rugby in Africa from a different perspective. Tendai is a role model for a lot of Africans, whether they are rugby fans or not, and his presence is a heart-warming accolade to the 39 member countries of Rugby Africa.”
