BULAWAYO-BASED award-winning authors Bryony Rheam and Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu will on Friday share their writing voyages at an event to be moderated by Drew Shaw at Zimbabwe Academy of Music in Bulawayo.

A statement by amaBooks said the event was partly inspired by a recent paper and online discussion led by Zimbabwean poet and academic Tsitsi Ella Jaji of Duke University in the United States of America titled The Bulawayo Novel: In Praise of the Parochial, which centred on the recent works by Ndlovu, Rheam and Novuyo Rosa Tshuma.

“The two writers will also talk about their new novels.

“Siphiwe Ndlovu’s The History of Man that was published in South Africa and is on the Sunday Times CNA Best Books 2021 long list, and Bryony Rheam has just completed a tour of Zimbabwe to promote her new novel All Come to Dust, which is to be published in the United Kingdom later this year,” read part of the statement.

“Anyone who is interested in Zimbabwean literature is welcome to attend this free event,”

The statement further noted that the authors had much in common as the only Zimbabwean writers to have won the prestigious Morland Scholarships for their debut novels.

“They are both prize fiction winners for their debut novels, the Barry Ronge Fiction Prize for Siphiwe Ndlovu’s The Theory of Flight and the Zimbabwe Book Publishers Best First Book Award for Bryony Rheam’s This September Sun.

“Those books have achieved international success outside of Africa, The Theory of Flight, with glowing reviews in the United States of America, and This September Sun topped the Amazon sales charts in the United Kingdom.”
