BY WINSTONE ANTONIO POLICE yesterday said that inputs for the presidential agricultural inputs programme were being abused. In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said as a result of the abuse, they have intensified monitoring and security of distribution systems and movement of the inputs from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots, as well as accountability by all officials and community members involved in the scheme. Recently, there were reports that some suspects were nabbed for abusing the farming inputs. “The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement has made it clear that the Pfumvudza inputs are not for sale. “In this regard, the public should report all beneficiaries, officials and individuals who are approaching farmers to acquire the inputs for resale in hardware shops. The arrest of Sekai Roki (38) is a case in point,” ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said. He said police commanders in all parts of the country have been put on alert. “The ZRP applauds members of the public who are coming forward with information regards to theft of Pfumvudza inputs,” he said.
