A 44-year-old man from Marange, in Manicaland, has been arrested on charges of raping his 16-year-old daughter on different occasions while wielding a spear and knife.

The man appeared before Mutare magistrate Notebulgar Muchineripi who remanded him in custody to October 30 and asked him to approach the High Court for bail application.

According to prosecutor Nyasha Mukonyora, sometime in September this year, the complainant was left with the accused at home.

During the night, the accused proceeded to the complainant’s bedroom and started fondling her breasts before removing her undergarments while muffling her mouth with his hands.

The accused threatened to kill her with a knife if she cried and raped her once. After sometime, he again raped his daughter and gave her $5 to buy her silence.

In count three, on October 5, the complainant was asleep with her sisters when the accused person woke them up to do household chores.

The accused started accusing the complainant of having boyfriends and started fondling her breasts. He allegedly threatened to stab her with a spear if she screamed and raped her again. The following day the complainant spilled the beans to her stepmother.

The matter came to light through child community worker Winnie Kefasi after receiving a tip-off from the complainant’s step mother.

The complainant was referred to Mutare General Hospital where the rape was confirmed, leading to the arrest of the accused.
