A 37-YEAR-OLD man from Redcliff yesterday appeared at Kwekwe Magistrates Court facing charges of resisting arrest and assault after bashing his friend and two police officers following a $4 dispute.

Antony Madhuveko was convicted of three counts of assault and resisting arrest.

Magistrate Story Rushambwa slapped Madhuveko with a $200 fine for assaulting his friend and an additional one year behind bars for resisting arrest and assaulting police officers.

Prosecutor Freddy Ndoro told the court that on May 12, Madhuveko accused his friend Vengai Mpofu of stealing his $4. He grabbed him by the collar and smashed him against a gate.

Mpofu sustained head injuries and rushed to a nearby police base before being referred to the hospital.

Two police officers came and handcuffed Madhuveko and led him to the charge office.

Upon arrival, an officer only identified as Constable Chitando removed the handcuffs and Madhuveko became violent demanding to be realised.

Constable Mhoswa who tried to restrain the convict from assaulting Chitando also got a beating.

The two police officers sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged from a local hospital.
