TOP South African comedians Trevor Gumbi and Khanyisa Bunu will headline this year’s edition of Intwasa’s Big Night of Comedy set for September in Bulawayo, NewsDay Life & Style can reveal.

The duo’s appearance at the arts and culture fiesta comes courtesy of the partnership between the festival and the entertainment company, Laugh Your Lungs Out, represented by one of Zimbabwe’s top award-winning comedian, Q Dube.

Intwasa Festival director Raisedon Baya said they were excited about the partnership as it was set to bring diversity.

“This is the first time the festival is hosting international comedy acts. It shows growth. The beauty of it is one of the partners is a known local comedian. This means the acts the partnership brings will always be well chosen,” he said.

Gumbi and Bunu will appear alongside Clive Chigubhu and other local jest-masters during the Big Night of Comedy show, which is part of the festival, on September 27 at Bulawayo Theatre.

Gumbi is a popular, outspoken and sometimes controversial comedian, actor and writer who has appeared in several South African dramas and talk shows.

He currently hosts the popular show, Friends Like These, on SABC 1 and has performed extensively in South Africa.

Bunu, who is known more for her acting, has appeared in hit television dramas, soaps and is an award-winning comedian who has performed at numerous festivals and arts events.

Besides the Big Night of Comedy, another comedy event, Borderline Insanity is lined up at Hope Centre in partnership with Sanctified Comedy and will feature the hilarious King Kandoro, Andrew Manhanga, Maforty, Ezra and T1nda.

This year’s 15th Intwasa edition will run from September 24-29 under the theme Spring Fever.
