A BULAWAYO magistrate yesterday acquitted deputy mayor Tinashe Kambarami and councillor Silas Chigora on charges of assaulting town clerk Christopher Dube.

The State had alleged that the incident took place at Dube’s offices on July 11 this year when Kambarami and Chigora attempted to suspend him, resulting in a scuffle as the town clerk refused to vacate office. Kambarami was acting mayor at the time. Dube filed assault charges against the pair, resulting in their arrest.

Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya yesterday acquitted the two at the close of the State case citing lack of evidence and conflicting statements from witnesses and the complainant.
