A PIPE burst at Plumtree’s major water supply booster over the weekend has forced residents to source the precious liquid from unprotected sources exposing them to waterborne diseases.
Plumtree Town Council secretary, Davies Dumezweni on Monday issued a statement advising residents of the water pipe bursts and assured them that efforts to restore supplies were underway.
“Please be advised that there’s a pipe burst along the main pipe at the Mhlanga booster. We are working flat out to rectify the problem and restore service to normal. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted,” he said.
Last month the border town’s taps ran dry for a week after councillors announced that the local authority was embarking on a two-day pipe maintenance programme.
However, after the period lapsed, water was not restored and the local authority blamed it on a faulty Zesa power line.
Residents had to rely on unprotected wells since the town has no community boreholes. Open defecation was also posing a health hazard to both residents and visitors to the transit town.
