Three cattle rustlers were on Wednesday slapped with a nine-year jail term each by a Kwekwe magistrate for stealing two heifers.

Tawanda Talent Hora and Godhelp Tatenda Mafuratidze Svosve of Mbizo, Kwekwe and Innocent Limbani of Hove village, Chief Chireya, Gokwe were convicted by magistrate Vimbai Mutukwa for shooting and skinning the heifers in a bush.

Prosecutor Freddy Ndoro told the court that on June 12, the trio stole two beasts belonging to Tavagwisa Chinyati.

After dragging the heifers from where they were grazing in a bush to a secluded place, Limbani pulled a gun and shot them. The convicts slaughtered the heifers and took the meat away, leaving the hides at the scene.

Chinyati then filed a police report after missing his beasts and investigations proved that the convicts were behind the stocktheft case.

In a related matter, a 34-year-old Bindura thief was on Tuesday jailed to four years by a local magistrate after being convicted of stealing two donkeys valued at ZWL$600.

Wilson Tavengwa of Chada village under Chief Musana will serve an effective three years behind bars after Bindura magistrate Ethel Chichera suspended one year on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Tariro Janhi told the court that sometime in May, Tavengwa drove away two donkeys from the grazing pastures at Chada village to his homestead.

Obvious Chinyani then identified his stolen livestock at the convict’s place of residence and filed a police report leading to his arrest.

In another case, a Mvurwi man, Gift Zulu, who broke into a commercial sex worker’s room hours after hiring her services for a short time session, appeared before Guruve resident magistrate Shingirai Mutiro who convicted him on his own plea of guilty to unlawful entry and theft. He was remanded to today for sentencing.

Representing the State, Carson Kundiona told the court that on June 5 at house number 127 ward one, Suwoguru, Township, Mvurwi, Zulu hired the services of Janet Manhango at a night club and went to her house.

The convict paid $20 for the services and they both returned together to the bar. After making sure that Manhango was soliciting for other clients in the bar, Zulu sneaked back to her house.

He broke in the house and stole the $20 he had paid the woman and two cellphones and disappeared.
