Police in Bulawayo are appealing to members of the public to come and identify the body of a male adult that was discovered on Wednesday last week in Emganwini residential area, near Mbokodo abattoir.

Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Nomalanga Msebele told Southern Eye that the body was at an advanced stage of decomposition.

“Two children who were searching for firewood came across the body of an unknown adult lying facing upwards and reported the case to the police. The deceased was taken to United Bulawayo Hospital mortuary. There were no particulars to identify him and he was wearing a black trousers, brown jacket and a red and white scotch shirt, but had no shoes on him,’’ she said.

“We are appealing to members of the public to come and identify the body, especially those with missing relatives. They should report to any nearest police station.”

Msebele said they are treating the case as sudden death.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating a case of an armed robbery that happened on Wednesday last week near West Park cemetery.

Msebele said three robbers attacked Onfas Maphosa (48) and took away laptops, cellphone and $7 all valued at US$500.

“Maphosa boarded a white Honda Fit between Second and Third Avenue along Lobengula Street, which had no registration numbers. He intended to go to Barbourfields suburb. When they approached Makhosi cultural centre, the driver drove along Victoria Falls Road and stopped before producing an Okapi knife, threatening to stab him,’’ she said.

“They forced him out of the car and drove away after taking his belongings.”
