Musonza, of Block OA Officers’ Mess at the airbase allegedly accused his workmate identified as George Mangwenjere, who is a Flight Lieutenant at the base, of being in a relationship with his girlfriend.
Although Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende, said she was still to get full details on the matter, a Criminal Investigations Department memo number 215/2018 seen by Southern Eye yesterday indicated that Musonza allegedly assaulted his 32-year-old girlfriend Lucy Duve — a lawyer with Gweru Legal Aid Directorate — leading to her death.
The matter, which is being treated as murder is being investigated under ZRP Gweru Central RRB 3692653.
According to the memo, Musonza went to Duve’s house at 16 Acacia, Windsor Park where the two occasionally cohabited, on Sunday at about 10pm.
“They had a misunderstanding with (Musonza) accusing Lucy Duve of being in a relationship with his workmate, George Mangwenjere, who is a Flight Lieutenant at Josiah Tongogara Airbase.”
The two then drove to the airbase so that they could clarify the issue with Mangwenjere. However, (Mangwenjere) denied having an affair with Duve.
But Musonza started assaulting Duve who fell unconscious on the floor. Musonza’s workmates took her to Claybank Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A report was made to the police, leading to Musonza’s arrest.
