Brace for protests, Chamisa tells MPs

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday told opposition parliamentarians to brace for protests over the worsening economic situation in the country.

BY DESMOND CHINGARANDE

Chamisa addressed the MPs at Morgan Tsvangirai House in Harare, where he said the party could not stop people from exercising their constitutional right to protest against the collapse of the economy.

“We have noted the total collapse of the economy in the hands of the Zanu PF government and president Nelson Chamisa, through engagements with the people, had seen it reasonable to allow the people to express themselves through protests,” MDC Alliance spokesperson Jacob Mafume said.

“Prices of goods are out of reach of the majority and, as the people’s party, we need to protest against this economic problem, which is the creation of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.”

Mafume said the party was open to suggestions about protests from their constituents as the situation was now dire.

“The situation is now dire and the people cannot just watch. It is the voice of God to protest and, therefore, where there is need, people have to protest,” he said.
He said the Alliance was still making consultations over the protests.

However, Chamisa’s address came in the wake of police threats to ban tomorrow’s planned demonstration by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.

  1. the message must be for those who want to protest please do not repeat what you did on 1st August 2018 we want peaceful price protests and if shelves are to go empty let it be so not to increase prices under the guise of the exchange rate this is tantamount to profiteering

  2. Kwana iwe. Ukatadza kukwidza maprice kana supplier akwidza its tantamount to suicide

    1. who is the supplier in this case.coz i understand its a whole lot of a chain.may be coming back to u as a worker,if i may ask did u get a pay rise?

  3. Protesting for what?It is Chamisa;his MDC-C & their business community supporters who are behind the rot to fix the incumbent over election results

    1. Govt intelligence must reveal the connivance between some unscrupulous business with MDC ALLIance plotters. The threat has been there for sometime and our intelligence ignores the sabotage warning AT THE PERIL OF THE ORDINARY PEOPLE. This group thrives on sanctions and rumour to drive their agenda. They do not sleep at the rumour monger machine.

    2. if Chamisa has that power to influence change in the country then simply give office to the one who has that power to change things, the catastrophe in the country clearly shows that the presidential office is vacant.

    3. haufunge iweeee Chamisa ndiye akapa Monetary policy statement here, ndiye akati bond riri pasi peUS$, unaita uchimuka ndosaka uchifamba netsoka iwee

      1. So you think Bond and USD are at par???. Stp displaying your foolishness….A worthless piece of paper cannot be at par with a reserve currency such as the USD. Ano.. ther factor is that our economy will never recover as long as we we use USD as the base currency. We need ou local unit properly backed up by foreign reserves for Zim to work again.

addmore gudo, you certainly sound like a poor baboon that still lives in archaic Zimbabwe. Reckless fellaz like you are the sure scapegoats for the mess this country finds itself in. The Third Republic is coming and behold, thou shalt receive deserved judgement

  5. So far being worse than Mugabe himself there’s no chance in hell ED will last 5 years in power. And unfortunately with his junta buddies Chiwenga & Moyo out of action due to ill health these impending demos might stand a good chance of success

  6. Being a patriotic citizen, let me release my research at 4th street guys. several boys there have shown me new us dollars bundles stashed in their dirty setchels. where are they getting such precious notes, these guys are not from ordinary circles, they must be linked to high ranking officials. now i am saying lets fight this corrupt practice from above to achieve what the president is preaching everyday

  8. Mr Chamisa is seeking relevance after realizing that his political career is sinking into oblivion. He should protest in person and not sent others. By sabotaging the economy Chamisa wont get anywhere. Some of his blind followers dance to his music whilst they are suffering. Pathetic, a president who wants his followers to continue suffering through sanctions. Sanctions do not hurt E.D forget about it. Its the general populace that suffer. Izvi hazvibhadhari. No need for these protests. No single individual has the keys to the economy but it takes all Zimbabweans to revive their economy. Its sad that we vote some of these MPs in parliament but do not focus on parliament business but engage in unnecessary protests. Who benefits at the end of the day?

  9. Senior to who except your boots, very stupid.

  10. Some people are so badly brain washed by zanupf and have their heads deeply stuck up in between zanupf’s butt it’s just hopeless. For someone to still believe in ‘sanctions’ and ‘sabotage’ as an excuse for failure in this day & age is so primitive & stupid

  11. Protests will never be entirely spontaneous. There will always be an MDC under hand.

  16. how will these protests reduce prices and mend the economy?how wil they help the poor man in the street to put food on the table I wonder

  17. What a failure! A nation of a mere 14 million(far less than that of some big cities elsewhere); highest literacy rate in Africa: abundant natural resources, including land failing to put its economic house in order and resorting to political blackmail and posturing everyday-God forgive your people, the laughing stock of the world.Utter hogwash!

  18. Nelson Chamisa doesn’t care about the ordinary person on the street. All else has failed to get him into power and he wants to capitalize on our suffering. What he wants is power at all costs at the expense of the suffering people he claims to care for. It is no secret that he has friends in industry which he has connived with to sabotage the economy. Prices did not start rising after the announcement of the tax by the minister of finance. Things have been disappearing from the shelves since just soon after the elections. It is only his blind zealots drunk with codaine or broncleer who will be brainwashed into demonstrating against something that he knows is his creation. Instead of going back to the drawing board and restrategizing ahead of the next elections he is busy working i cahoots with his sympathizers in industry to sabotage the economy. This zealous young boy must be arrested for treason because personally this is what l equate his actions to. The honest truth being said is that he does not care spit for anyone except his craving for power at all costs. Stop abusing the people and sort out the mess in your own party and also grow up and stop throwing these tantrums. You are behaving just like a deliquent spoilt brat.

    1. he cares….takamuvhotera tinomuda….arrest for what…ndezvako with your Zanu

  19. Ma CIO e zanu kuzara pa platform pano. Attacking Chamisa to cover up their misdeeds.
Leave Chamisa alone and solve economy. Useless, why concentrating on Chamisa instead of solving the economy? Imbwa

  20. Linda Ndlovu- UZ

all those attacking NERO are hypocrites. they want to hide their failure. if Chamisa can influence the economy then he is more powerful. Give him power so that we will enjoy his effort.

  25. Government can easily deal with economic suboteurs by repeeling the instrument which barn foreigners from investing in certain businesses. Just open up to everyone wether foreiners to invest in any business as long as they have the capital. Also do not hesitate to revoke the licences of those who will have been found to sabotage the government for political expediency.

  26. Well its just simple here everyone is entitled to their opinion. Chamisa is still young and needs to mature, stop the bluffing game and using innocent people. The guy has mastered the.mind of a Zimbabwean its very easy to manipulate them in order to get what you want just tell them what they want to hear. No wonder we have fake prophets maximising on this shallow way of thinking.
MDC still thinking they won the election till this day reality is Zanu had supporters even in harare cause they know the young man is inexperienced. Call them thieves whatever, the fact is that they know the system means they have something that Chamisa and team don’t which is experience MDC can’t even show professionalism at the lowest of levels like council. The only time you know who they are is on.the ballot paper. They play mind games what do you get if you get in.the streets honestly. Of what benefit is it to us if you keep your solutions to yourself while your people suffer thats just sick. A bluffer as always I have put measures to avoid rigging, I have the evidence , I have the solutions to the problem. I refuse kuitwa bharanzi kunge musikana anoudzwa ndokutengera mushini wekubhendesa mabanana and fall for it. Neeeeeeever
