Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident, saying the trio will be charged with murder.

Farai Mhlanga (39), Benjamin Kawere (29) and Moreblessing Guvheya (18) allegedly killed Tafadzwa Fombe after allegedly finding him committing the offence.

“Three Mutoko men are currently in police custody assisting police with investigations following the death of an 18-year-old man who broke into a bar owned by one of the suspects. We urge the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands to avoid such incidences,” he said.

On September 12, Mhlanga who owns Pahuswa Bar in Mutoko, discovered that Fombe had broken into the bar and stolen beer, a memory card and biscuits worth $23.

The trio allegedly assaulted Fombe and left him for dead.

Mhlanga later filed a police report and was arrested together with his two accomplices. Fombe was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mutoko Hospital.
