Jadnos Mafusire (45) of Rootsvale Farm and his 11-year-old son Shadrack were guarding their kiln when tragedy struck.

Mashonaland East provincial acting police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident and urged people to implement safety measures when conducting their errands.

“We received a report of two people who died after a kiln collapsed. The deceased are a father and his son who were asleep near the kiln when it collapsed. People should exercise maximum caution always,” he said. According to police, on August 2, Mafusire and his son were drying farm bricks before they slept near the kiln to monitor progress. It is reported that Precious Mafusire (18), a daughter to the deceased woke up and discovered that the kiln had collapsed.

She then removed a few bricks from the rubble and discovered his father and brother’s bodies.

The incident was reported at Marondera Rural Police Station who attended the scene and conveyed the bodies to Marondera Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.
