Chamisa promises to phase out bond notes

MDC-T and MDC Alliance presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa, has pledged to retire Zimbabwe’s surrogate currency, the bond notes, which are pegged at par with the United States dollar, by September if he wins the upcoming general elections.

BY BLESSED MHLANGA

Chamisa told NewsDay that Zimbabweans had suffered enough because of the bond notes, losing their lifetime savings to a “worthless currency” that needed to be discarded.
“When the new Zimbabwe comes, people of this country will enjoy their lives again. The first thing my government will do is to retire the bond note by September,” he said.
“We will ensure that there are adequate US dollars in our banks. We will make sure that the multicurrency basket has money, while at the same time my government will be making inroads, so that the country can join the Rand Monetary Union and the (South African) Customs Union, the current government does not have this vision.”

The opposition leader said the issue of foreign currency shortages, erosion of disposable household incomes and high premiums in running business was not economic, but political, being pushed into the face of ordinary Zimbabweans by poor leadership and corruption.

“This country is under the burden of poor leadership. The burden on people is being caused by corruption and greed by a leadership that is after self-aggrandisement.
“The MDC government will remove this burden, which places premiums on business and the workers, we will deal with corruption and make deals that benefit the people and not the officials,” he said.

Chamisa said President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the entire Zanu PF team were not leaders, but commanders, who think everything should fall in line when commanded.

“The difference between me and Ngwena (Mnangagwa) is that he is a commander, I am a smart governor, he will come with command economics, I will bring smart economics, he will bring command salaries, I am bringing smart salaries, salaries which suit the work that people are doing, which will earn them a decent lifestyle,” he said.

Chamisa also proposed the creation of a social safety net for pensioners, whom he said are being shortchanged.

“We want to fix the issue of pensions, you can’t have a worker getting $80, as pension per month, let’s go back to giving workers, we also want to provide free health for all those above 65 years and above, access to free public transport, having metro trains,” he said.

OH NO CHAMISA.THE USE OF THE DOLLAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN A TEMPORARY MEASURE NOT THIS LONG.

    1. Go to hell.

    2. Not very bright. You write “THEY WILL CONTINUE DRAINING THIS COUNTRY OUR HARD EARNED WEALTH BY TAKING OUT THE US DOLLAR”. So they will steal our dollars, or do you have a problem with people doing what they want with their own USD? Think before hitting the caps key and going all keyboard warrior on us!

  2. Why should we be buying tomatoes grown in Murehwa with money imported from America. There is something wrong here.

Youngman you are bit by bit becoming a hopeless American capitalist.the election are there in between 22 july and 22 august 2018 and already you are talking about retiring the bond by september without giving any meaningful explanation on how you will replace it with.you are too cheap to lead a sofisticated society such as Zimbos.Take a lesson from ED its no longer politics its the economy stupid.

  4. This boy Chamisa is only a lawyer who does not even qualify to be minister of justice let alone President . It is also a matter of poor advice or may be he does not listen . 5. in as much as i dont support the Bond notes ,the solution being prescribed doesnt work ,You can not grow an economy by using forex,Secondly joining the Rand monetary Unit requires us to have our own local currency ,look at the countries that use the Rand ,they have their own currency. All the best Chamisa.

…ED and his entire cabinet are useless. They lack longterm vision and are not innovative, we can’t continue with their rulung style! We are tired of the struggle mantra, whatever happened during the colonial era belongs to the past, this 2018! We have to move on from their colonial achievements and lead a modern life, this is 21st century and we are tired of the dead wood being reshuffled in the government, we are tired of ZANUPF!

Them young people that sympathize with ZANUPF must be benefitting either directly or indirectly from the party. I want to believe that these young people are being paid to kill and destroy opposition members hence their love for the ruining party.

Back in 2008, ZANUPF sponsored thugs and its suppporters to murder opposition activists!

We need Chamisa and the MDC Alliance, they are the only way out of this mess.

  12. At least Chamisa has an idea of some sort, whether it will work or not is another issue, ED on the other hand is completely clueless what needs to be done

  13. If you fix the economy all zimbabweans win…from 2009-2013 we were in a good position…today its one big mess…was the problem caused then ? I dont think so…we need a lasting solution…old school or new blood…its your vote…

  14. BY september he wil make sure that we have enough USDollar, which is the solution for the mean time to solve the long serving crisis. if you really follow Chamisa or his speeches, there is another rally in which he stated that by 2023 we will have restored the Zim Dollar. you can not just wake up and revise the Zim Dollar my brothers and sisters. it takes a very long time, it needs economic revamp, rebuilding our economy first, then we can say we are now able to have our own currency. whats bad about bringing in more US dollars. Hanty your banks izvezvi anokunyorerai kuri US DOllar, makamboona pakanzi bond dollar. sometimes guys I think we need to think before we type anything or comment. so its better, we get adequate US dollar, whilst trying to resolve the issue of our disolved zim dollar. its a gud idea indeed

  15. Young blood is the best for Zim. Zvavo zvekuti nyika haitongwe nemaborn free ivo vachida vote yemaborn free kkkkkk haaayaaa. Zanu yazopererwa manje. They want to fix economy yavakaondonga vega noooo it’s time for the old foxes to go. We need money in the banks.
