Talent Kuvimba (18) was not asked to plead when she appeared before magistrate Tilda Mazhande, who remanded her in custody to April 5 pending finalisation of the investigation.

It is the State’s case that on March 10 this year, Kuvimba strangled the minor using a neck chain and set the house ablaze, burning the now-deceased beyond recognition. Kuvimba allegedly later came from the shops and went to the police station to report that the now-deceased had been accidentally burnt by a candle she had left in her bedroom.

It is alleged a CID homicide team attended the scene and the now-deceased was taken to Harare Central Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem. The post-mortem report concluded that boy’s death was as a result of fourth degree injury and a neck chain had sunk in the neck due to strangulation. Sebastian Mutizirwa appeared for the State.
