SCORES of disgruntled Marondera residents stormed council offices yesterday in protest over poor service delivery.

The residents, mainly from Rusike Phase 3 high-density suburb, said they were particularly angry over erratic water supplies and the poor state of most roads in the town. The placard-waving residents also petitioned Marondera Central legislator, Lawrence Katsiru and Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister David Musabayana to address their concerns.
Part of the petition, which was also copied to town clerk Josiah Musuwo, read: “On Friday, March 2, 2018 most residents received letters of demand from the Municipality of Marondera. We were shocked with this council attitude of demanding money from us over half-backed services. It must not be misconstrued that residents are pushing not to pay rates. It is everybody’s responsibility to pay rates and be accorded quality service provision like residents of other suburbs.”
The residents also threatened to take the matter to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“As residents, we feel it’s time to petition the relevant authorities to ensure we put an end to conditions of squalor we continue to be exposed to while the Municipality of Marondera continues with its care-free attitude towards us. We will be prepared to take the matter to Harare for the attention of the ministry of Local Government and President of Zimbabwe, if need be,” the residents charged.
Both Musuwo and mayor Antony Makwindi could not be reached for comment.
