REGISTRAR-GENERAL (RG) Tobaiwa Mudede yesterday refused to bow down to pressure from MPs to explain why he has not been retired from the civil service since he is long past the retirement age.

Mudede had been summoned to appear before the Tshinga Dube-led Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence and Home Affairs to speak on issuance of registration documents.

Civil servants retire at 65 years of age, but Mudede has continued with his job as a top civil servant despite having long exceeded the limit. Unconfirmed online reports say Mudede was born on January 11, 1944, which means he is 74 years old.

“I am not going to disclose my age, and I am not the one to answer as to why I have not been retired yet, you must ask that from my employer the civil service,” Mudede bragged, imploring the legislators to direct their question to his employer.
