NEWLY-APPOINTED Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) boss, Isaac Moyo, made a surprise visit to various State security departments at Beitbridge Border Post on Friday, in what insiders described as a familiarisation tour.

Although reasons for his visit remained sketchy, Moyo, who prior to his latest assignment, was Zimbabwe’s ambassador to South Africa, briefly met various government departmental heads before leaving.

“It must have been a familiarisation tour coupled with restoring confidence to staff,” said a source.

Beitbridge Town, which sits on the country’s border with South Africa, is regarded by all security sectors as strategic.

The CIO, Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Prison Services and the Zimbabwe Republic Police are fully represented at the border post.

Moyo took over as head of CIO after it had run for a few months without a substantive head following the elevation of Happyton Bonyongwe to a Cabinet post in former President Robert Mugabe’s last reshuffle before his ouster in November last year.
