Chamunorwa Mutume of Argos Farm reportedly died after turning on the water pump in a bid to drain water from his neighbour Clayton Musariri’s well.

Mashonaland East Police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza could not be reached for comment yesterday.

According to a reliable source, on the day in question, the now-deceased was asked by Musariri (23) to assist him with draining water from the well using a petrol-powered water pump.

It is reported that Mutume got into the nine-metre-deep well with the pump, leaving Musariri on the surface.

It is alleged that the now-deceased switched on the pump and started draining. However, Mutume started feeling dizzy and alerted his neighbour that he wanted to get out since he was now having breathing difficulties.

Musariri reportedly pulled out the pump using a rope, but Mutume collapsed and drowned in the water. It is reported that Musariri called other villagers who retrieved the body.

The matter was reported at Marondera Rural Police Station who attended the scene and conveyed the body to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare for postmortem.
