Hwange opened the scoring on the 63rd minute through a header by Elvis Meleka before Delic Murimba ensured the points were safe two minutes from time. Hwange coach Bigboy Mawiwi could not hide his delight at securing the win.

“I am so happy I have been under pressure to ensure the team wins and survives,” Mawiwi said. “I hope this win dismisses the notion that I am a failure,” said an emotional Mawiwi as he shed tears. His opposite counterpart Philani Ncube said that it was painful to lose the match.

“It’s painful losing this match. We wanted to win, but there was not enough hunger in my players,” he said.

Harare City sunk deep into the relegation zone two points from safety with one match to play this season.

After a first half stalemate, Chipangano took full control of proceedings in the second half, carving out a number of scoring chances.
