Mandla Mpofu’s men showed verve and carved out good chances against the Harare giants who appeared to lack hunger.

The Green Machine were so poor that they could not get a shot on target in the first half with their first shot on target coming on 64 minutes from a speculative effort by midfielder Devon Chafa.

The visitors, however, threatened on several occasions with Bhekimpilo Ncube and Moyo Mkhululi coming close in the first half. Although they dominated their opponents, they, however, failed to convert their chances and could only collect a point in the end.

The point, however, enhanced their chances of survival as they can still avoid the chop if they win their final match against already-relegated Bantu Rovers.

With Harare City failing to beat Hwange in another match, Bulawayo City are in fourth position from the bottom with 36 points and will need to win their last match against Bantu and hope that Hwange falter for them to survive.

On the other hand, Caps United now have 57 points, four behind fourth-placed Chicken Inn which means they can no longer make the top four.

Mpofu predicted a tough match against Bantu, describing them as one of the best teams in the league despite having already been relegated.

“I am not happy with the way we lost opportunities we got, but the only thing I can control is our final game against Bantu. That will be very difficult. For all the games we have played, this will be one of the biggest games and we will channel all our energies on the Bantu game. They are out, but those youngster are unbelievable, it’s one of the best teams,” Mpofu said.

Caps United assistant coach Mark Mathe admitted they didn’t play well.

“It was a difficult match compare to last week. We didn’t create enough chances, we didn’t do enough, but look we have done very well this season and we will take the point and focus on our last match against Highlanders,” he said.
