‘Tsvangirai might not handle 2018 polls’

Morgan Tsvangirai’s ally Eddie Cross has revealed that the family of the MDC-T leader is worried that his health might not allow him to handle the 2018 general elections as well as assume responsibilities of President of the country.

By Everson Mushava

“Now, just as we expect a wave of support for our 2018 Chakachaya programme, he is suffering from an aggressive form of colon cancer,” Cross wrote on his blog in an article titled Life is not fair.

“He has been struggling with his treatment and the family is concerned that he might not handle the election and subsequently, the responsibility of being President of a country in a deep crisis.

“After a lifetime of principled struggle, to have it all threatened by a disease in your body. Life can be a bastard at times.”
Tsvangirai is currently battling cancer of the colon and was recently airlifted to neighbouring South Africa to receive treatment.

The MDC-T leader’s illness has not only thrown his party into disarray, but also opposition parties that had selected him as the face of a grand coalition against Mugabe in next year’s elections.

In an emotionally-charged article, Cross described the trials and tribulations of the MDC since its formation in 1999 and how Tsvangirai has been carrying the hopes of many Zimbabweans going into next year’s elections.

Cross also sympathised with embattled Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa for being “betrayed” by President Robert Mugabe, a person whom he served all his life.

“And if you think that is a tough situation, just think about Emmerson Mnangagwa, who in the past two weeks has just recovered from being poisoned at a Zanu PF rally, been lambasted publicly on several occasions by the so-called ‘First Lady’ and now humiliated in public by the President, someone whom he has loyally supported all his life,” Cross said.

He said Mnangagwa played a pivotal role in keeping Mugabe in power.

“Many will argue that those who live by the sword will die in the same way,” Cross said.

“But still, it’s a tough call for a man whose whole life has been dedicated to his party and the State President, even though he (Mnangagwa) knows fully well that the President, more than any other person, is at the very centre of our problems and must go or the country runs the risk of either armed conflict, a coup or simply becoming a failed State.”

  1. Comment…Cross indirectly says Tsvangirai was poisoned(remember the tea and cakes at statement) the same way ED was and both nolonger pose threats to Gushungo’s hold on power as they battle with health issues. The old man is a schemer and he can pass the baton to his prefered heir, Gire.

  2. He just need one term in charge, pse.

  3. relax people, God is in control, that’s all that matters

  4. nelson chamisa should rule or else I m still going to vote for nkosana moyo

    1. who cares if you vote for Nkosana..you well know that you will be wasting your time..its good to rathern stay at home..

    2. No brand Morgan is the one that sells for now. Lets get him in and then once he wins then he can leave the presidency to a younger person .I think the constitution says if he retires his party will chose another president .Then and only then can we choose someone. Trying to change a candidate now and getting acceptance from Gogo vari kwaMkandabhutsu will be an impossible task

    3. Umkhonto ka Shaka

No to neriseni chamisa, we want the first vice president Thoko Khupe to take over from Tsvangirai because she elected in a congress not handpicked goons.

    4. Comment…zvinhu zvakaoma, totadza kusvika here to the promised land naSave like Moses did with the Israelites from Herod’s bondage & suffering

  5. I can’t help falling in love with the Croc. From nowhere I now like the guy

    1. Please don’t he is now a Lizard kubvira paakaisirwa hunduwe naAmai pawashing line.

  6. Nelson Chamisa is a traitor he is involved with G40 read Munangagwa’s report to the Politbro, he is too ambitious

  7. what if mnangagwa’s report is a calculated move to cast doubt over chamisa and eliminate a youthful threat to zanupf.mnangagwa in implicated in gukurahundi even by zanupf.he is implicated in mujonga crippling case and he denies all yet gukurahundi looks clear.now Jerera you want to believe emmerson.

  8. zanupf and the nazi party as well as korean and russian systems are not different

  9. can we for once stop as zimbabweans to be distracted by things like this, if Zanu Pf is not distracted by the fact that Mugabe is 93 and cant walk without stumbling and also suffers from ill health who are we as MDC to to distracted by Morgan’s ill health, why dont we focus on campaigning on behalf of Morgan because that is what we are supposed to do as MDC members. If we know he wont stand the hectic schedule of campaigning , is it not the responsibility of the party and its members to do that on his behalf, remember if sit and say he will do it and MDC fails, people will not say Morgan failed they will say MDC failed, let us not be so naive.

  10. I have always been proudly ZANU PF since the liberation war period but when I’m presented with a choice next year between a G40-led ZANU PF and the MDC led by a youthful candidate like Nelson, it’s a no-brainer I would opt for the latter next year for the sake of our country. By the way, the MDC got my vote in 2002 and 2008.

  11. Many do not understand the physiology cancer, especially when it affects the digestive system. Sadly Modern treatments are hardly effective and Morgan has been getting the best of it. Not that i wish him or anyone suffering from cancer any ill, but Science is very stubborn except as God intervenes of course.

The reality then is that Morgan’s chances of survival at this stage are getting slimmer and it would be well if he were to rest it all off til the inevitable happens. The best he can do now is to assist his alliance team in pressing forward with a new front page face for the election campaign. Anything else will play into the hands of Zanu pf, which also is in a terrible conundrum. This leaves the odds in favour of Nkosana Moyo and his party APA provided they become more visible and vocal, the one possible game stopper though for Nkosana would be Nelson Chamisa.

For now we can pray that Morgan puts his house in order with the Creator and that this illness will not be so burdensome on him as it is known to be.

  12. Comment…Cross indirectly says Tsvangirai was poisoned(remember the tea and cakes at statehouse) like ED and this removes the threat to Gushungo’s hold on power.

  14. Wezhira wezhara

Obviously Tsvangirai was poisoned during his days in Government or in prison nenyaya dzema fake treason. Kafiramberi ndozvakaitwa because Mugabe smiles at you but inwardly anenge achida kukumedza. I am Lacoste for life because we want to challenge the wolf dressed as a lion and kick it out of State house, throw the wife and children in prison.

  15. Sherpard Moyo ,very correct sir.

  16. who is cross anywer bulshit cross wy do u want to kill the hope of hopeless zimbos. u are not the spokeman getaway eddie

  17. We need business persons like Masiiwa to lead our nation out of the economic troubles facing us. As successful as the Econet project was, the same can happen for our battered nation.

  18. Eddie wings must be clipped before shit happens the party must quickly call this guy to order . Cross last week talked a lot of tribal rubbish now he is talking about Morgan health issues at the time we are told he is recovering and responding well to medication and Eddie comes with this . So in other ways he is saying Luke TAmbolenyoka has been telling the world lies . Please MDC T act now Cross is up to no good at all .

  19. Is Cross saying he doubts if Tsvangirai will win the elections;but he was always unlikely to win;but just go for it, just prove for his stamina as you always trusted;don’t hide behind his sickness. In shona, they say& I quote”kufa kwe mujoni company haivharwe-literally referring to the point that when the owner dies the firm never stops,it goes on & on”& I unquote.May b it could be that as the people know that Tsvangirai is unlikely to b there at the end of the day& hope some new person might emerge to replace him, might turn up in their droves, come 2018 to boost up the opposition cause, may b

  20. if his sickness is terminal, then he cant compete in this gruesome race. it would rather he takes it easy at home and let others take up the baton. By the way in Zimbabwe all political parties are suffering from leadership crisis and people want to continue holding on to a ‘dying’ person as if he was nominated from above, then they will wake up to a rude shock. wake up and smell the coffee and see where this is going.

  21. constituation yavo inoti khupe will take over so iwe eddie cross kutaura kwausina kuswera tsvangi akati vakomana vanozviziva saka vakomana mai khupe ndevedu fambai gwara rimwe

  23. If they is any one still doubting that Morgan will win more than what he did in 2008 then that person is non other than a bobjan . It clear very clear that mdc will win next year that is a clear cut and in 2023 when other elections will be held they will be no zanu watch this space .

  24. More so Morgan at 66 will be not be weaker than a 94 year very frail Mugabe who will be standing in for zanu . those who think so must be confused

  25. please fellow zimboz, seems our infatuation with personalities, will be our downfall.judging from the comments above, apparently people are more concerned about persons and not the ability of the persons to excecute the required duties considering the infirmities or ailments afflicting them.A nation of millions cannot find FIT ,young and “educated” persons to lead our beloved country,SHAME ON US.You have people who often times have been found on mountain tops shouting aloud how an old man cannot farthomably keep running the country ,suddenly go silent or try to justify the continued leadership of a cancer afflicted individual.Imagine the same individual now in state house ,going weeks abroad for treatment ,draining the fiscus ,something the supporters of the supposedly” young” gentleman have been wont to complain about when done by the oldman.

  26. 2018 its either mugabe or tsvangirai series haichinji macharacter

  27. Umkhonto ka Shaka

I support you Collin on this, we need someone who can take the nation out of conundrums obtaining in our political, economical and financial spheres. People like Masiiwa from Econet springs up to my mind and being joined by Nkosana Moyo we will be poised for redemption

  28. UMkhinto we Sizwe

Get well soon Mr Prime Minister……

  29. Comment…things are tough, sure can we not reach the promised land with Save like Moses did with the Israelites from Herod’s herodius suffering

  30. Comment…I read. all comments. above. Disgusting. Given time and life Tsvangs is the. best

  31. Morgan was poisoned during that time he was in Government. I remember talking with some friends while in UK that this will not survive to see a new Zimbabwe if he continously drinks tea and coffee with Mugabe. This is the reason why Biti was against Government of National Unity. Mugabe is dangerous, so that dangerous that guy can even kill his own children for the sake of presidency. He is a coward! He killed vanaTongogara and we don’t need a scientific person to tell us. Morgan was an idiot, he should have mastered that before getting into GNU.

Look, they missed VP at Gwanda Rally, they also missed him pavakadira poison in his office, they missed him paAccident. The reason they are missing this target is because anoziva maTricks avo. Morgan should have mastered that before GNU. He showed us that he is a coward coz we all had our hopes in Morgan coz he is the only person ZANU PF fears even arimuguva.

Now see, vana Chamisa ava hapana zviripo they are well known CIOs. I just hope Morgan lives for a another decade or more for him to see a New Zimbabwe. I wish him well and the lord please help him out.
