Bogus Grace security aide in court for theft

A WOMAN who allegedly masqueraded as First Lady Grace Mugabe’s private security aide yesterday appeared in court charged with the theft of goods donated to Mazowe Children’s Home and Zanu PF women’s league worth $156 000.

Apphia Nyasha Musavengana’s matter was postponed by magistrate Barbara Mateko to October 5 to allow her to prepare for trial.

The complainant in the matter is an Israeli national, Luka Ignatius Fabris, a director of Fabris Construction and Spartan Security PL.

Allegations are that in June last year, Musavengana (23) approached Lovemore Chamatowa, who is Fabris’s business partner, and introduced herself as coming from the President’s Office doing security checks.

She interrogated him about Fabris’s businesses in Zimbabwe.

It is alleged Fabris overheard the discussions and called one Delish Nguwaya to come and verify the identity of Musavengana and what she wanted.

The State alleges Musavengana told Nguwaya that she wanted Fabris to pay Chamatowa his benefits for him to be accorded permanent residence status in Zimbabwe.

Fabris allegedly later paid Chamatowa $30 000 and a tractor front loader backhoes as his benefits.

Musavengana was also paid $120 000 to facilitate Fabris’s residence status and part of the money was supposed to be donated to Mazowe Children’s Home.

Fabris also paid $40 000 to Musavengana for her to process a meeting with the First Lady.

The bogus security aide was also paid $20 000 to secure an appointment with the Zanu PF director of women’s affairs.

After paying, the two allegedly proceeded to Zanu PF headquarters, where they met one Nyaningwe.

Musavengana told Nyaningwe that Fabris wanted to donate $75 000 to the First Lady.

The State alleges Nyaningwe dismissed the two after telling them the procedure for donating to the party.

On July 14 last year, Musavengana again allegedly asked Fabris for 18 inverters to donate to the Zanu PF women’s league, but she only handed over 12.

The matter came to light when Fabris was not given any acknowledgement by Zanu PF and the First Lady after all the donations.

He discovered that he had been duped by Musavengana before reporting her to the police.

Idah Maromo appeared for the State.
