Xolani Moyo (40) of Cowdray Park was last week sentenced on his own plea of guilty to the theft charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Tinashe Tashaya.

The court ordered him to pay a $30 fine, failing which he would serve the 20-day jail term.

The court was told that on July 22, a security guard, Lawrence Nyathi, manning the council’s workshops, saw Moyo working inside the premises after hours and became suspicious. Nyathi then waited for him at the gate with the intention of searching him on leaving the premises.

Moyo eventually came out of the workshop oblivious of what awaited him at the gate.

Nyathi then conducted a body search and recovered stolen motor spare parts worth $101, leading to Moyo’s arrest.
