The trust’s other mandate, according to Nyathi, is to document the historical record of Zipra fighters’ excursions during the liberation struggle.

Nyathi yesterday unveiled a three-member management committee to lead the project. These are Stanley Nleya (national director for historical affairs), Khayalami Njini (director for children’s scholarships) and Brilliant Moyo (organising secretary).

“In respect of the cited individuals, the recommendations were made after carefully establishing identifying the expertise and hence recommendations made on merit which will help the organization adhere to the intended objectives of the organisation,” Nyathi said.

“I have so far signed memorandum of understanding with various institutions which will see us sharing information and visiting various places so as to come out with the proper history of the liberation war. I am also happy that plans to start construction of the Joshua Nkomo Memorial Site in Matobo is at an advanced stage. What we are calling for are pledges and donations from the political leaders, liberation war heroes and business community in support of this national cause.”

Several other former Zipra members and have formed various trusts in honour of the late Father Zimbabwe, who died of cancer in 1999.
