In the latest accident that occurred yesterday, six people died on the spot, while two others later succumbed to crash injuries at Chitungwiza Central Hospital after the driver of a Harare-bound commuter omnibus lost control and rammed into a stationary haulage truck parked on the roadside near Dema business centre.

The Saturday accident, which occurred at the 34km peg along the Harare-Mutare Highway, involved a kombi, which veered off the road and overturned several times, killing two people on the spot and three others died on admission to Marondera Provincial Hospital, Pacific Clinic in Mabvuku and Ruwa Rehabilitation Centre.

According to the police, the kombi was speeding and had 24 passengers on board instead of the legal maximum of 15. Mashonaland East acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza urged motorists to exercise caution and curb loss of lives through avoidable accidents.
