MDC-T scoffs at Mugabe’s ‘meet-the-youth’ tours

MDC-T youths have scoffed at President Robert Mugabe’s proposed “national meet-the-youth tours”, saying the Zanu PF leader had nothing to offer to the younger generations given his party’s failure to deliver on its promise to create 2,2 million jobs by 2018.

MDC-T youth leader Happymore Chidziva, in a statement yesterday, said Mugabe’s upcoming rallies organised by the Zanu PF youth league, should be boycotted as they were a waste of State resources.

“Remember, the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) was looted on the back of funding the so-called one-million man marches, the national broadcaster will also be going around the provinces beaming these mundane rallies live on television on the back of taxpayers and to the pain of those who pay licences,” he said.

Chidziva, whose party is currently conducting a voter education exercise dubbed #Bereka Mwana Tiende (take your child and vote), said Mugabe’s youth rallies were a sideshow designed to disrupt their programme.

“After realising that the Zimbabwean youths, for the first time since independence, have become more determined to define, secure and defend their future, the ancient party is now desperately attempting, through so-called tours to lure the young vote. This will not work because we see through these old people, selfish and determined to stay in power despite the obvious ruin they have inflicted on Zimbabwe,” he said.

Chidziva said Mugabe, at 93, should use the “little energy” he had left to create the jobs he promised in 2013.

“It boggles the mind, what exactly a 93-year-old, a wheelchair-bound candidate, has to offer a struggling youth in the street? Mugabe’s last election’s promise to the youth hasn’t been met, even an inch of it,” he said.

But, Information minister Christopher Mushowe defended the Zanu PF government, saying it had delivered on all its electoral promises.

“We have delivered on our promise to create 2,2 million jobs. Our people have created their own jobs and capacity utilisation in a number of companies has increased since the introduction of Statutory Instrument 64. The problem is they are used to working for the white people and reporting for duty every morning that they don’t see the jobs we have created,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s graduates litter the streets of Harare where they have been reduced to vendors, selling second-hand clothes, shoes and even underwear from the boots of their cars.

  1. A part of destructive only.

    1. MDC-T position on youth quota system is insane, how can Chidziva accept 20% yet youths consist 60% of our population.Zanu pf tried to adopt women qouta system and thy failed decimal in 2008 which is the route MDC-T is taking by giving women 50% quota system.Mugabe is a strategist let him meet the youths because Chidziva and your part are myopic and dont want to listern to voice of reason

      1. @Ncube byo, l think Mdc-t wants 20% youths to register to vote secondly Chidziva is the worst National Youth Chair. He has failed to stand for youths interest and wishes. We hope he will see the light and push agendas which benefit the youths in Mdc-t.

  2. It boggles the mind that someone with a doctrate degree utters such nonsense, really. Dr. Mushohwe Zanu pf government has not created any jobs at all period. The jobs created by Zanu pf are 3 in total, that is 2 for the vice presidents and the 3rd one is your appointment as minister of information. Mushohwe must not try to hide behind a finger and defend the president. The number of graduates roaming the streets, the number of companies that have closed up shop or retrenched staff bear testimony that no jobs were created. zanu pf has managed to make everyone a vendor-may be that is the job creation your are talking of. As for the president’s meet the youth tours, l suggest he goes along with it because it will take a great toll on his already battered frail body, making sure he is not fit to do anything thus come elections next year he will be bedridden. So that is a good recipe to make zanu pf lose the elections

  3. Kkkkkkkkkk this chuckles the loquacious. Honestly who in the country still has time to listen to these rehearsals……? The age group of the below 40years haven’t enjoyed their lives simply because they are scattered all over the world, separated from their loved ones and still prompted to listen to dreams. Please may our current government forgive us

  4. Its high time MDC should stop being cry babies and take action. When the nonagenarian is meeting the youths, MDC should also go out and meet the youths. When Zanu campaigns in Rural areas, MDC should also go out and do the same.

    1. Exactly my point too! That tired body of Mugabe is going to beg for votes from the youth. Why can’t the opposition do the same? MRT, JTM, TB, WN, etc. can join hands in boardrooms and bedrooms but if they can’t join hands on the campaign field, Mugabe will win it again, sorry. Please start your campaigns now and sell the “alternative” to the electorate while we still have time. By the time of the elections, people should just be waiting for the games to begin. Start now or Mugabe’s gauntlet wins!

@Gheo wasiya rimwe basa rasimba ku airzim raaka creator futi near tshiga dube kuma warvet amana Inga aka tryer wani, my oint is they are not 3 bt 5 amana

  6. Vending isnt employment at all because u are not entittled to pension after retirement or other eventualities. If its employment those including Bob should lead by example by becoming vendors themselves rather than clinging on power for 37 years.

  7. Vusumuzi wako Mange

Mushowe, leave your post and create your own employment, then you may perhaps convince us.

  8. What is the origin of political cognitive bias that explictly manifests among Zimbabwean youths? The discrepances between subsequent electoral promises and the reality on the ground should be their driving force. How can they be liberated from this mental inceration and this political misconception eradicated? Majority of them I believe, are enlightened to evaluate impractical promises given within certain stipulated timelines but lack the ability to question. It can never habitually be business as usual and yet expect different results. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

  9. Wheel chair bound seems like you attacking Mugabe and the disabled intentionaly or otherwise

  10. I have a question: What is Mushohwe’s doctorate in? From which university? Or is it the usual nonsense where people are GIVEN degrees that they did not work for?

  11. mushowe ngaa kwane uyu nxa is he dreaming

  12. As far as idiots go I think Mushohwe is up there. He’s just good at praise singing and grovelling at the feet of a certain shrivelled 94 yr old biltong skin goblin. Mushohwe, Made, Chombo, Mphoko, Obedient Son, etc. Unoshaya kuti why on earth would these people be appointed ministers at all. Ayaz.

  13. i used to respect Mushohwe ndichifunga kuti anogaya but ndazotoona kuti irema chairo risingafungi.Anongotaura zvisina kana musoro
