Egyptian Amany Asfour has been re-elected as chairperson of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa Business Council (CBC).

Asfour was re-elected at the CBC annual general meeting (AGM) that took place in Lusaka, Zambia, last weekend, to serve a second two-year term.
Other members elected were Azim Currimjee (Mauritius), as first vice-chairperson and Flora Mutahi (Kenya), the second vice-chairperson.
The elections, which took place during the 10th AGM of the CBC, also elected directors of the board that include: Solomon Afework (Ethiopia), Karl Chokotho (Malawi), Stephen Ruzibiza (Rwanda), Wilson Nancy (Seychelles), Amna Mohammed Ibrahium Elnour (Sudan) and Roseta Chabala (Zambia).
The AGM was attended by the CBC membership, including private and public sector stakeholders from the 19 Comesa countries as well the development partners such as United States Agency for International Development.
Besides elections, the meeting validated key achievements of the institution during the period 2015 to 2016 and reviewed the roadmap towards 2017.
The CBC is the recognised apex business member organisation in the region, and a private sector institution of Comesa. The CBC represents private sector interests at the highest levels of decision making in the region.
