Birthwell Sibanda (23) and Thabani Lunga (27) of Old Pumula and Mpopoma, respectively, were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Gladmore Mushove.

The magistrate remanded them in custody to December 29.

The court heard that on May 5, 2014, the now deceased, Herry Moyo, was in the company of his brothers, Collen and Elvis, walking along Luveve Road. When they were adjacent to Matshobana suburb, they were attacked by the two suspects, who were in the company of Edwin Sibanda, who is still at large. The suspects allegedly robbed them of their cash, mobile phones, and grocery all worth $225.

Moyo and his brothers, during the scuffle, tried to escape into some maize fields, but the suspects pursued them and repeatedly stabbed the deceased with a knife, killing him on the spot.

A report made to the police led to the arrest of Sibanda, who implicated his two accomplices. Lunga was later arrested, while Edwin is still at large. The knife used in committing the alleged offence was recovered from Sibanda.
