Although the Zvishavane-based side have the financial muscle to tie down the player to a new contract, they run the risk of having the player leaving as a free agent.

The player’s manager, Jorge Deda confirmed Mhango’s current deal with FC Platium was coming to an end on December 31, but declined to say whether the player would renew the contract or not.

“Its true Mhango’s contract is expiring this month, but we are still considering options available. I can’t tell whether he will be at FC Platinum or not,” he said

FC Platinum spokesperson, Chido Chizondo could not be reached for comment yesterday, but reliable sources said the player was considering a move away from Zvishavane.

Mhango was influential in FC Platinum’s title charge, where they eventually finished second behind Caps United. Caps United finished the season with 63 points, two ahead of the Norman Mapeza-coached side.

The two teams contributed three players each on the Soccer Stars of the Year calendar, with FC Platinum providing Mhango, forward Walter Musona and goalkeeper, Petros Mhari, who also won the Goalkeeper of the Year Award, while Caps United had Ronald Pfumbidzai, Leonard Tsipa, who was the first runner up, and Hardlife Zvirekwi, who won the Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year award.

In recent years players who make it to the Soccer Stars of the Year Calendar end up attracting interest from South African clubs.
