Director of the trust, Tsitsi Machingauta said construction of the centre in Matabvu village, was expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Speaking during a tour of the project, Machingauta said similar centres would be developed in nine other provinces in the next five years.

“This is an initiative aimed at supporting women to becoming self-sufficient and we will only focus on agriculture,” she said.

“The project needs about $300 000 to get everything done. We are hoping that by December next year we will be able to officially open the centre. Our vision is having at least one centre in each province because we need to have unique products being produced in each area.”

Machingauta said they would develop similar structures of the same value in Masvingo, Matabeleland North and South, Nyanga, Mashonaland East and West, among other provinces.

She said the Domboshava project would also have an orchard, livestock section, fish ponds as well as cottages for long distance travellers in addition to training and conference facilities.

“We are just trying to help the communities earn an income from things that are readily available to them. We have seen donors come and go, but leave our communities with nothing. Sometimes they are also being exploited and given valueless money for their hard-earned products,” Machingauta said.

“Here in Domboshava they have mazhanje, guavas, mangos and other fruits like that so through the training centre we will then be able to actually do processed product like marmalade, jam, juices among other things.”
