Gumede was banned for allegedly plotting to oust the current Zifa executive committee.

Highlanders acting chairman, Modern Ngwenya yesterday announced the latest development at the club offices.

“The secretary-general (Ndlovu) is going to assume the duties of the CEO. He is not the acting CEO, but is assuming his duties as spokesperson of the club. We sat as the executive committee and the board and decided that the roles of the secretary and CEO are similar and in the meantime Ndlovu will assume those duties,” he said.

After a bit of resistance to the censure by Zifa, the Highlanders leadership finally succumbed and the board appointed Ngwenya as the acting chairman following Dube’s suspension.

Bosso chairman, Peter Dube was suspended for alleged misconduct.

Ndlovu, who presided over yesterday’s Press conference at the club offices, said Gumede and Dube’s cases were being handled by the club lawyers.

“The cases are being handled by our legal team and I am not going to elaborate. I am assuming the role of chief executive officer. That does not mean to say that I am the acting CEO. I remain the club’s secretary-general,” he said.

With Gumede calling it quits at the end of the year, Highlanders are likely going to appoint a new substantive CEO next year.
