CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe is confident that his team will get over the finishing line as the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League programme returns this weekend following a two-week hiatus to pave way for Chibuku Super Cup and the Warriors’ friendly match against Tanzania.

Chitembwe and his boys, eyeing a league title in over a decade, host Ngezi Platinum Stars at the National Sports Stadium knowing a win could be enough to win them the coveted prize.

The Green Machine have 57 points, two ahead of FC Platinum and four better than Highlanders, two teams that clash at Mandava Stadium this weekend.

With just two rounds of matches to go, all Caps United need to do is beat Ngezi Platinum and pray that FC Platinum do not collect maximum points against Highlanders to open an unassailable gap at the top.

While most coaches in Chitembwe’s situation would not have welcomed a break at this stage, where his side appeared to be cruising towards the finishing line, Chitembwe is unperturbed.

“We started preparing for this league in January and we have played 28 matches so far. Why should I worry about two matches? The break was for a worthwhile cause. I am very positive about everything and I am not worried at all,” Chitembwe said.

Second-placed FC Platinum still have a chance to snatch the title from Caps United. But the Norman Mapeza-coached side need favours from fellow miners Ngezi Platinum to beat Caps United, and hope they get maximum points against Bosso.

As for Highlanders, they still have slim chances of winning the title, but their destiny is out of their hands.

For them to win the title, they need to win their remaining two matches and hope that Caps United falter against Ngezi and Chapungu in their final league matches.

Unlike Chitembwe, Highlanders coach Eroy Akbay welcomed the season break.
