In an Instagram and Facebook post, Gutu appeared to take a dig at Chitembwe by saying: “You play me when you want? Well, I train when I want, you think I don’t have feelings.”

The post, which was later taken down, was accompanied by a picture of his teammates, Hardlife Zvirekwi, Dominic Chungwa, Joel Ngodzo and Ronald Pfumbidzai celebrating a goal during a match played at Rufaro Stadium.

Sources yesterday said Gutu does not see eye to eye with Chitembwe. And in the post, the player appeared to suggest that Chitembwe could be jealous of him because he is “highly-paid”.

Gutu’s followers on social media reacted to the post with some backing the player and urging him to move on, while others advised him to be patient and stick around.

After one of his fans, Innocent Campila, suggested to the player that he should have used other channels to address his grievances, Gutu said there was nothing wrong with his post, as he was “speaking his mind”.

He said this had been the worst year of his career, claiming he had been giving his all in training.

“I have been training hard since the day I joined Caps United and that is why I was the top scorer in pre-season,” he said.

Another supporter, using the handle Mhofu Mhofela warned Gutu: “Do not underestimate the power of these social forums. They can affect your career big time. Do you really understand the message that you have sent to the whole sporting world? Caps is two matches away from winning the championship, relax.”

Nevison Gakaka told Gutu that he failed to take the chance when he was given an opportunity to play in the team. However, some like Morris Gaucho Ruzivo sided with Gutu, saying: “If you don’t understand football, you will think Gutu is wrong, but, as a footballer, you will know the pain of training and not playing, every soccer player does that.”

No comment could be obtained from the Caps United camp.

The midfielder has seen very little game time at the Green Machine since his surprise move to the Harare giants from Swedish club, Kalmar FF at the start of the season.

After being released by the European club, Gutu trained with his former club Dynamos, but then shocked the team’s supporters by joining arch rivals Caps United.

But he has had a frustrating, season so far with the log leaders as he struggles for game time, with reports suggesting he is angling for a move back to Dynamos when his contract expires at the end of the campaign. Other reports also suggest that Gutu has been truant at training.
