The new six-track album, which is his second after Kupakwashe, was done at Diamond Studios and produced by veteran Bothwell Nyamhondera.

Dembo — who took over the reins at Barura Express following his father’s death told NewsDay yesterday that he believed his latest album would be better than the previous one, reflecting his maturity as a musician.

“The six-track album is complete though I am yet to a give title. We are putting the final touches, but all is well. The album will be released in December. I just feel it is the right time. I want the fans to enjoy their Christmas holiday listening to the album,” he said.

“The album is better than the other one. I have improved a lot mainly on the vocals and guitar works. I am confident the fans will like it. I thank God, who has been with me from the beginning.”

Songs on the upcoming album include Mushando, Usakudze Kupopota, Katsamba Kuna Dhiya, Havana Zvinovanetsa and Musha Mukadzi.

During his live performances, the song Mushando has proved popular among fans, as the lanky musician maintained the Barura Express type of music consisting of cleverly crafted poetic lyrics accompanied by the trademark churning lead guitar sound.

On the album, Dembo played the lead guitar and provided the vocals, while Levison Bhibho was on the rhythm guitar. Talented Malizani Mbewe was on bass with Knowledge Chandafira on drums.

The Barura Express frontman has struck the right chord after resurrecting his father’s highly-rated Barura music. Leonard is rated as one of the finest musicians ever to emerge from Zimbabwe.
