Simeti succumbed to chest pains at Arcadia Medical Centre on Tuesday afternoon and will be buried in Ndamba Village in Mudzi today.

The artistes, who performed during the Jam Session, which started off as a fun-filled jamboree featuring new and renowned music groups, paid tribute to Simeti for the role she played in the local music industry.

Ramsey K, who has proved to be the king of covers in Bulawayo, called Khuliyo on the stage to perform a rendition of Tshepo Tsola’s song, Waiting, which brought a sombre mood in the house.

“I have worked with Mama Joyce Simeti and learnt a lot from her. The music industry has been robbed of a mother and sister. I dedicate this song to her,” Ramsey K said.

The veteran gospel musician died at the age of 42.

“It was Ramsey’s idea for us to do something for the late Joyce Simeti, surely we have lost a sister and mother in music,” Khuliyo said.

Simeti recorded her first album Tose Takadanwa in 2002 with Ngavongwe Records, and then she followed up with NaMwari Zvinoita.

This week’s session was headlined by Iyasa, Mangoma, Kedder and Khoyi Khoyi.

Relatively unknown artistes and music groups have also been given a chance to showcase at their talent to the public during the jam sessions.
