FOUR candidates successfully filed their papers at the nomination court in Mutare on Friday to contest the Chimanimani West parliamentary by-election slated for November 26.

These are Zanu PF’s Nokuthula Matsikenyere, Peter Gudyanga (Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe), Pesanai Musakanuka (National Constitutional Assembly) and Edmore Mtetwa (independent candidate).
The seat fell vacant following the expulsion of Munacho Mutezo from Zanu PF after he defected to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s Zimbabwe People First party.
In an interview with NewsDay after filing her nomination papers, Matsikenyere said she had already hit the campaign trail, promising to revamp the constituency’s road network, among other projects.
‘’We are targeting to improve the road infrastructure and also to improve the state of our clinics. As Zanu PF, we are a people first party, we work for the people, we have orphans and widows in our constituency and we are going to work very hard for them so that they get the necessary support they need,’’ she said.
Musakaruka said his campaign was anchored on good governance.
“We are promising good governance in our constituency, and we are hoping to force the government to address the issue of human rights abuses. This is our major concern in our party,” he said.

Gudyanga said he was targeting refurbishment of the area’s obsolete irrigation infrastructure.
“We are aiming to improve the irrigation schemes in Chimanimani. We have various projects we are going to work on. We are near Chiadzwa, where diamonds are mined, we need to improve all our infrastructures, clinics, hospitals, roads, schools, among other things,’’ he added.
