Tony Fresh — as Tonderai Diza is known in music circles — was born partially blind and earlier efforts to medically correct the problem did not yield positive results. He described the incident — which has since cost him many friends and clients — as a temporary mishap that he has since gotten over.

Tony Fresh said he was still a competent producer although he may now have to rely on other people to assist him around.

“I lost my sight completely on January 8 this year and everything started going wrong. Everything changed as I was used to doing things for myself, but now I have to rely on other people,” he said.

“People lost confidence in me. I lost many friends when I lost my sight, but I have soldiered on to show the world that I am still capable of doing my job. Nothing has changed. It is just my eyesight that is gone.”

Tony Fresh released a single under his recording stable, Kunta Family, titled Kare Haagari Ari Kare which he said was partly inspired by what he was going through.

“Currently I am also working on a 10-track album titled my time,” he said.

Diza said he was also grateful for the efforts that were being put in by fellow artistes that he had worked with who were hosting a tribute bash for him on August 20.

The confirmed line-up of performers includes Guspy Warrior, Dr Ralph and Bessel “Hwindi President” Parewa.
