Yesterday’s win was their fifth in seven matches and they have not tasted defeat since Tonderai Ndiraya took over from Clifton Kadurira in June.

Their last loss came against Dynamos on June 19 and since then they have made a remarkable turnaround.

Having drawn their reverse tie against Rahman Gumbo’s men, the top-flight newcomers were determined for a win yesterday and they got the start they would have dreamed of when Donald Teguru scored the first goal inside seven minutes.

They never allowed their opponents back into the game and went to the break ahead.

Sixteen minutes from time, Ngezi got the insurance goal before the visitors halved the deficit through a goal by George Majika scored from a set piece late.

Ngezi Platinum leapfrogged from position eight on the league table to fifth, 12 points behind the leaders.

Chicken Inn dropped from seventh to tenth with the defeat.

Ndiraya was pleased with the win, saying their aim was to steer away from the relegation zone as much as possible.

“We are happy with the three points, we are taking it one game at a time,” he said. “We have had a good run, but we are not getting ahead of ourselves, our objective is to stay up.”
