Dondo confirmed firing the trio comprising dancer Evidence Kufinya (popularly known as Generator), guitarist Lengthens Musoni and producer-cum-keyboardist, Munyaradzi Viyali saying they were getting big-headed.

He, however, maintained that the development would not derail the band’s progress.

“For progress’ sake I have parted ways with Munya, Generator and Lengthens on professional grounds. When people are working as a team they have to treat each other equally and it becomes a problem when some feel they are special simply because they once worked with seasoned musicians before,” he said.

Dondo said that no individual was bigger than the band and it was important to instil discipline and ensure that professionalism prevailed.

An insider at the band told NewsDay that management was fed up with the trio’s behaviour and had decided to part ways with them. “After we recorded the album, these guys started absconding rehearsals only to appear a day before a concert and this did not go down well with the management,” said the insider.

He said Dondo was working hard for the success of the band, but the trio were busy throwing spanners in the works amid reports that Viyali was refusing to take orders from the new band manager, Luckmore Muzava.

However, Viyali professed ignorance over the matter and claimed he was still part of the band.

“I do not know anything about being fired at the band. I am still with him (Dondo), but it’s only that my schedules are tight,” he said. Musoni was yesterday said to be in Botswana, while Generator was not reachable on her mobile phone.

The musician’s Impala Subway Crooners ensemble was assembled in December 2015 and released its debut album early this year.
