THE rape trial of Bikita West legislator Munyaradzi Kereke (Zanu PF) continued yesterday, with his mother-in-law accusing the doctor who examined her two grandchildren of lying.

Anna Muswapadare challenged the record, arguing that the fact that she did not see anything wrong with the then 10-year-old girl the morning after the alleged rape in 2010 meant that the affidavit was not true.
Private prosecutor handling the case, Charles Warara, then queried the grandmother if she had any qualifications to allege that the doctor lied.
She maintained that her observations were not wrong.
“The only concern you have is to see the accused walking out a free man and that is why you are lying,” Warara said.
“All this is a fabricated case,” Kereke’s mother in-law hit back.
The alleged rape victim was examined by one ET Chanakira, who was attached at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in 2010.

Kereke also once contested the medical affidavit and asked the court to expunge it from his docket. The legislator accused Warara of sneaking the document into his docket, adding it was an alien exhibit which did not come through the Prosecutor-General’s Office.
Kereke also told court that he made investigations at the hospital and confirmed that Chanakira was not on duty on the day his niece was examined.
However, Warara brought the doctor to the stand after magistrate Noel Mupeiwa ruled that such an important document could not be expunged.
The magistrate also told Kereke that if he wanted his investigations to be accepted, he was supposed to bring a witness from the hospital to testify.
Meanwhile, the trial continued with another security guard at Kereke’s Mandara house exonerating his boss.
There are more witnesses yet to testify before the case goes for judgment.
Kereke is accused of raping his juvenile niece at gunpoint in 2010 as well as indecently assaulting the other one during the same year.
