A HIT-AND-RUN kombi driver who allegedly fled the country after fatally knocking down a Form Four Girls High pupil, Jocelyn Gomba (17), two weeks ago at the corner of Park Lane and Leopold Takawira Street in Harare, was arrested in Polokwane, South Africa, on Sunday. The accident also left another pedestrian Odwell Mabanga (35) seriously injured.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said Wadzanai Mabika (41) was arrested together with a Norton woman, Jane Ngano (29), who reportedly assisted him to skip the country as the net closed in on him.
Ngano is being accused of defeating the course of justice, while Mabika faces six charges that include culpable homicide, failing to stop after an accident, failing to report an accident after 24 hours, failing to ascertain if any person is injured or killed after an accident, failing to render assistance after an accident and reckless driving.
“Investigations are in progress under Harare traffic CRs 637-639, 677-679/05/16 and Tab ref 3538/16,” Charamba told reporters in Harare yesterday.
Charamba said police on Sunday also arrested two men, Simon Sanyanga (40) and Ngonidzashe Mundoringisa (22), who were masquerading as police officers targeting taxi drivers in the city.
The two used one Constable Ruza’s police identification card, but ran out of luck when one motorist, who was about to be duped, checked their identities with another police officer who noticed they were fake, leading to their arrest.
