Nissan sub-Saharan Africa’s general manager for sales and operations, Liz Segal, told NewsDay in an interview on the sidelines of the company’s cocktail at the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair that they were aiming to increase their sales in Zimbabwe this year despite economic hardships.

“We sold over 1 000 cars in Zimbabwe in 2015 and we are targeting to sell about 1 500 in 2016,” she said, adding that their brand has grown in popularity in Zimbabwe since they established a presence almost 50 years ago.

Segal said Zimbabwe was an important market in their sub-Saharan Africa growth strategy, which aims to put Nissan among the top three automobile companies in Africa.

She said they were fully committed to increasing their already substantial market share in support of their sub-Saharan Africa goal.

Segal revealed that in the first of 2017 they would be unveiling their new Navara car in the sub-Saharan Africa.

She also said negotiations to clinch more dealerships with two companies in Zimbabwe, one in Bulawayo and the other in Harare, were at an advanced stage.

Segal said despite stiff competition posed by grey imports from Asian countries, their sales were doing fairly good.

Nissan was currently the top car brand in Zimbabwe with a 30% market share, according to Segal.

She revealed in a recent statement that Nissan was Zimbabwe’s number one car brand and was here to stay.
