FORMER MDC Gwanda South legislator Ekem Moyo has described Zipra choir founder Give Nare, who died on Wednesday, as a liberation hero.

Nare (79) died from a suspected heart attack.
He was the founder of Light Machine Gun (LMG) that was set up by the late Vice-President, Joshua Nkomo to sing revolutionary songs.
LMG became Zipra’s official choir.
“Gwanda South has been robbed of its star hero, Give Swalu Nare, the undisputed founder of the liberation choir LMG. Nare took the struggle higher, producing songs in many languages including Sotho, Venda, Ndebele and Shona.
“His songs turned out to be the driving force of the struggle, which attracted the love of Father Zimbabwe, the then Zapu leader and commander-in-chief of the gallant Zipra forces,” Moyo told Southern Eye.
Moyo said it was sad Nare was never recognised for his music.

“It’s totally unbelievable actually to people who were mentored in music by him. It’s sad today that after so much sacrifice, he got so little.
“The Gwanda South people will mourn as he was the gifted son who left a legacy of music which no one can match. He is the undisputable hero from Gwanda. Only jealousy can rob him of his status. His music is an envy to us all in Gwanda South,” Moyo added
LMG Choir spokesperson Happiness Sibanda said Nare died at Gwanda Provincial Hospital after suffering a stroke.
“As LMG Choir, we are in great pain as Nare was the spinal cord of the group and since he has died we feel like we no longer have balance since he was the composer of the music,” Sibanda said.
“The worst part of it is that his wife died last month and on Sunday we had her memorial service. Now that the husband has died, we are confused as to what will be done.”
Nare will be buried in Gwanda today and mourners are gathered at number 1103 Phakama.
