Lucia Pedro, of Masona village under Chief Seke, is expected to appear in court soon facing charges of murdering Tazorodzwa Takavada, who was three months pregnant.

Mashonaland East police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo could not be reached for comment yesterday.

According to reliable sources, on April 10 at around 2pm, Pedro saw the now deceased holding two pieces of chilli coming from the toilet. Pedro then asked Takavada why she had entered the toilet with the chilli, before she revealed that she was three months pregnant, hence she wanted to use the chilli for abortion purposes.

Pedro then quizzed Takavada about who was responsible for her pregnancy, but she refused to disclose his name.

At around 8pm on the same day, Pedro allegedly called Takavada to her bedroom and assaulted her with an electric cable all over the body.

Pedro stopped the assault after realising Takavada would not disclose anything. Takavada later told her boss that shewas feeling weak and wanted to rest.

Pedro covered Takavada with a blanket and the two slept in the same room. The following morning, at around 4am, Pedro woke up and discovered that Takavada had died.

Pedro then informed her sister Sheilla Marange (43) of the incident and the two reported the matter to Dema police.

Police attended the scene and noted some injuries on the shoulders and neck of the deceased. The electric cable allegedly used to assault Takavada was recovered from the bedroom.

The body was taken to the Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
