The commemorations starting from 10am to 5pm, would be held in partnership with the National Aids Council, Vuka Afrika Performing Arts, Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust, SIDA and DANIDA.

Muzondo told NewsDay yesterday that he was grateful for the partnerships with the corporate world.

“I am happy that TISU.COM is becoming not only relevant but important to the community ,and they have come to identify with most issues raised in the plays. Freedom of expression on different issues has also been fostered as evidenced by the post-performance discussions in which women and young people have expressed themselves freely,” he said.

“The participation of companies in the community is also a clear indicator of what we want for theatre, which is not just sustainability but viability.”

He said so far 10 companies have confirmed participation at the event that is now in its third-year running. These include CBZ, Rainbow Towers Hotel, Ericsson Zimbabwe, Ambassador Hotel, Freda Rebecca Mine, Kadoma Hotel, ZETDC Harare, Crown Plaza Monomotapa Hotel, Holiday Inn Harare and Delta Sparkling Beverages.

He said the companies’ performances would be complemented by a play from EDZAI ISU Theatre Arts Project titled Hanya Nani 3 and a musical, Mama Africa, by the resurgent Mambokadzi.

World Theatre Day was initiated in 1961 by the International by International Theatre Institute, and is celebrated annually on March 27 by the international theatre community with various national and international theatre events organised to mark this occasion.
