THIRTEEN contestants for the Miss Curvy Zimbabwe 2016 have been identified ahead of the grand finale scheduled for August at the Hellenic Cultural Centre in Harare, pageant organiser, Mercy “Catwalk” Mushaninga, has said.

Mushaninga told NewsDay yesterday that several potential sponsors were set to partner with them in this year’s edition running under the theme Models Against Hunger in Africa.

“We have 13 contestants that are naturally curvy, between the age of 18 and 30, drawn from Bulawayo, Harare, Rusape and Masvingo who have been identified already ahead of the August grand finale.”

Mushaninga said the aspiring contestants will first undergo a grooming process for about three weeks both theory and practical, ahead of the boot camp.

“For this year’s edition of the pageant, we are looking at about 16 to 20 contestants and for the first time as a way of moving with the global trends, we will introduce an online voting platform for the people’s choice model,” she said.

She said after the final in August, they will shift their focus to Miss Curvy Africa set for December in Harare, with participants from more than 20 countries expected to walk the ramp.

Mushaninga said passion and persistence has kept her committed to the pageant despite financial challenges.

She said the pageant continues to grow bigger and better with more potential sponsors coming on board ahead of the grand finale.

“I am happy that Miss Curvy beauty pageant has gone a long way in affording fuller women an opportunity to show off their beauty as curvy women did not have that opportunity in modelling competitions because they do not fit within the definitions of beauty set by most international modelling platforms,” Mushaninga said.

Their bodies, their choices.Your approval is not sought.Thats the beauty of feminism, it gives women a range of choices and they shouldn’t be shamed if they make choices you don’t approve of.Hillary and Joice arevopportunists who have ridden on their husbands coat tails, nothing heroic about that
